Registered Nurse - 9E Neuroscience Stepdown Unit

About the role

The Registered Nurse position on 9 East focuses on providing individualized, goal-directed nursing care to adult patients diagnosed with stroke, neurosurgery, and neurology conditions. The unit is equipped with bedside monitors capable of monitoring arterial lines, CVP, ICP, SpO2, and EKG. Staffing ratios are 1:3 or 1:4 based on patient acuity.

Responsibilities

• Assist in providing individualized, goal-directed nursing care to patients and families.
• Interact with other members of the health care team to achieve desired outcomes.
• Perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, working indoors, and working outside in temperature extremes.
• Perform job functions from elevated areas, kneeling positions, bending at the waist, twisting at the waist, squatting, performing pinching operations, reaching overhead, reaching in all directions, lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs., pushing a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet, and pushing a stretcher with a patient with one hand.
• Maintain good olfactory sensory function if selected positions.
• Work rotating shifts and may require overtime.

Requirements

• Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred, but Associate or Diploma degree in nursing is acceptable if hired on or after July 1, 2013, with enrollment in an accredited BSN program within two years and completion within four years.
• Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, carrying, and pushing.
• Ability to work in a latex-safe environment.
• Ability to work in rotating shifts and potentially work overtime.

Skills

• NICU/Neonatal Intensive Care Unit experience is preferred.
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification.
• Stroke Certification is encouraged.
