Responsibilities

As a Registered Nurse at Garnet Health Medical Center, you will uphold the following professional nursing practices:

Your role includes the protection, promotion, and optimization of health, prevention of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering, and advocacy in care for individuals, families, and communities. You will be guided by the New York State Nurse Practice Act, ANA Code of Ethics, Jean Watson’s Nursing Philosophy, and Garnet Health’s Nursing Strategic Plan. You will work toward delivering safe, timely, effective, equitable, and patient-centered care.

Requirements

  • Active New York State Nursing License in good standing.
  • Associate, Baccalaureate (preferred), Master’s, or Doctorate Degree in Nursing from an Accredited School of Nursing.
  • American Nurses Association endorsed Certifications or Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses Certification preferred (based on specialty hours of work requirement).
  • Must meet physical demands: considerable standing, walking, reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, and visual demands.
  • Must participate in Safe Patient Handling Initiatives; assistive devices must be used for patient transfers where any caregiver lifts more than 35 lbs of a patient’s weight.
  • Mental demands: ability to foster collaborative relationships, work under pressure, organize and synthesize information, prioritize tasks, and demonstrate critical thinking and flexibility.
  • Must be able to multi-task and maintain detailed attention in an environment with uncontrolled interruptions.
  • Sensitivity to customer needs and expectations.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours, including nights and weekends.

Working Conditions

  • Contact with patients under varied circumstances, including exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials.
  • Exposure to unpleasant patient elements and unpredictable situations, including emergency and crisis scenarios.
  • Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves, safety glasses, respirators, or full-body suits.
  • Potential contact with chemical, radiological, physical, electrical, mechanical, or other workplace hazards.
  • Adherence to the New York Department of Labor/Nursing Licensure Board recommendation on the 16-hour work limit.

Training

  • Accountable for completing annual/required mandatory training within specified time frames.
  • Must maintain current BLS certification; additional AHA training (e.g., ACLS) may be required for certain clinical areas.
  • ACLS required within 1-year post-probationary period for Medical-Surgical units.
  • 5 North: Peritoneal Dialysis Training required within 6 months of hire/transfer.

Qualifications

  • New graduates considered for Medical-Surgical units.
  • 1 year of Medical-Surgical experience preferred.

Pay

The compensation range for this role is $56.58–$62.48 hourly. This range complies with New York State law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements and does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits. Factors such as location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget, and internal equity may influence compensation.
