About the Role

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is a 306-bed medical center providing care to residents of eastern Long Island. The facility includes the Knapp Cardiac Care Center, a modern ambulatory surgical pavilion with specialized services such as women's imaging, a sleep laboratory, and bariatric surgery. It operates a Provisional Level 2 Trauma Center and a Primary Stroke Center designated by the New York State Department of Health, ensuring 24/7 expert care for traumatic injuries and stroke patients. The hospital also maintains multiple outpatient sites, including a wound care center, hemodialysis center, and various primary care and specialty offices.

Responsibilities

• Collects patient health data by involving the patient, family, and other health care providers.
• Performs initial and ongoing assessments based on patient presentation and department policy.
• Records relevant data on the nursing component of the Interdisciplinary Admission Assessment.
• Demonstrates awareness of special needs for diverse age groups, cultures, and patients with disabilities.
• Incorporates discharge planning into the admission process.
• Analyzes assessment data to determine problem identification and expected outcomes individualized to the patient.
• Identifies cultural, ethnic, and spiritual aspects of patient/family dynamics related to care.
• Recognizes patient comfort/pain management needs and knowledge deficits for the patient and/or family.
• Develops and communicates a plan of care that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes.
• Collaborates with the patient, family, and healthcare providers to integrate identified needs into the plan of care.
• Incorporates teaching and learning principles based on identified learning needs and developmental level.
• Assists the patient and family in securing services to address health-related needs.
• Implements the plan of care, performs patient monitoring, and adapts nursing procedures to meet individual patient needs.
• Provides education to the patient and family utilizing the educational assessment.
• Recognizes hazards to patient safety and takes action to maintain a safe environment.
• Delegates tasks according to the state nurse practice act and caregiver knowledge/skills.
• Demonstrates knowledge of drug administration, including incompatibilities, contraindications, and adverse effects.
• Complies with medication policy and procedure for order transcription/verification, administration, and documentation.
• Evaluates patient progress toward outcomes and revises the plan of care as needed.
• Documents patient response to interventions and updates the plan of care.
• Identifies barriers to achieving desired outcomes and utilizes resources to mitigate negative impacts.
• Provides care demonstrating ethical beliefs and respect for patient rights.
• Participates in quality improvement activities to enhance nursing practice.
• Maintains effective interactions with staff across departments and contributes to professional development.
• Acts as a facilitator for patient care issues and seeks assistance from management when needed.
• Accepts feedback to improve patient care and unit functioning.

Requirements

• Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice acquired through completion of a two-year training program at an accredited School of Nursing.
• Current New York State license as a Registered Professional Nurse.
• BLS certification and de-escalation training.
• ACLS certification (required for ICU, Float Pool, Emergency Department).
• TCAR Certification (required for SICU, PACU).
• For Emergency Department: PALS and TNCC (within the first year).
• BLS, ACLS, and PALS must be through the American Heart Association (AHA).
• Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients and families, demonstrating cultural diversity awareness.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Analytical ability to assess and develop solutions for clinical situations or unit problems.
• Proficiency in the clinical area and age group served.
• Physical ability to frequently lift/carry more than 75 lbs, push/pull more than 100 lbs, bend, squat, kneel, climb steps/ladder, and reach above shoulders.

Preferred Qualifications

• BSN preferred.
• For ASU RN: 1 year of critical care experience preferred.
• PALS certification preferred.
• Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia (e.g., CAPA) preferred.
• 1 year of nursing experience in preoperative, perioperative, or post-anesthesia care preferred.
• Experience in patient assessment, education, and care planning for pre- and post-operative patients preferred.
• Prior experience in discharge planning and coordination of perioperative patients preferred.
• Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems preferred.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $106,916.04 - $138,356.04 annually. Actual salaries depend on factors such as experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. This range does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits.

Full-time night shift: 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM.
