About the role
The VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare (VAGLA) System seeks a highly skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to work in Med Surg/Telemetry/Oncology Units in West Los Angeles.
Responsibilities
- Ensures detailed and comprehensive documentation in the patient medical record and other pertinent records.
- Utilizes human and material resources to provide efficient and effective patient care.
- Monitors the environment for potential and actual safety hazards and ensures adherence to strict safety procedures.
- Guides and directs patient care delivery of support staff.
- Provides input for staff evaluations and participates in and initiates Quality Assessment and Improvement program activities.
- Promotes collaborative practice to provide and expedite quality patient care.
- Affirms patient advocacy to ensure appropriateness and quality of care.
- Assesses learning needs of patients and staff and implements appropriate teaching plans.
- Initiates and/or participates in studies pertaining to the ward assigned.
- Collaborates with other healthcare professionals in providing continuity of services for specific health issues.
- Improves continuity of professional relationships among healthcare teams.
Requirements
- Basic English Language Proficiency.
- Graduate of an approved school of professional nursing.
- Current - full - active - and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse.
- Greater than 3 years Acute Care experience.
- Experience providing evidence-based nursing care to complex Acute Rehab inpatients.
- Experience independently managing patient care using the full nursing process with limited supervision.
- Experience leading or guiding other nursing staff.
- Experience coordinating care and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to meet patient goals.
- Experience using clinical computer systems in daily practice.
- Experience working flexible shifts in a 24/7 hospital environment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Master's degree in Nursing (MSN).
- Master's degree in a related field with a BSN.
- Doctoral degree in Nursing.
- Doctoral degree in a related field with a BSN.
Skills
- Good organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to assume leadership in a patient-centered program.
- Able to establish effective communication with patients, families, visitors, and members of the interdisciplinary team.
