About the Role
A practitioner with a level of knowledge, skills, and experience in dietetics practice necessary to be competent as a Registered Dietitian professional. The primary responsibilities include direct patient care through application of the Nutrition Care Process (NCP), including nutrition assessment, determination of the nutrition diagnosis, developing nutrition-focused, evidence-based interventions (such as the nutrition prescription or diet/feeding order), and coordinating Medical Nutrition Therapy services. The role also involves nutrition monitoring, evaluation, counseling, and education for both inpatient and outpatient populations.
Confidently and respectfully collaborates with patients and the interdisciplinary team to provide exceptional care while contributing to a culture of safe, high-quality care.
Responsibilities
- Performs the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) and Nutrition Focused Physical Exam as appropriate for high-quality patient care.
- Documents and maintains records according to standard operating procedures, legislation, regulations, and organizational policies.
- Precepts and teaches dietetic interns and other students, such as medical students.
- Collaborates with the Manager of Nutrition Services at least 4 hours every 60 days (specific to Rehabilitation & Nursing Centers).
- Maintains clinical productivity standards and accurate record-keeping of daily clinical activities, including scheduling and billing.
- Interacts with the interdisciplinary team to advocate for patient care and support a culture of nutrition.
- Coordinates Medical Nutrition Therapy services for patients.
- Contributes to and engages in improving department and organizational metrics.
- May engage in communication and interactions with the media on issues related to the focus area or other advanced clinical areas.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree (required for individuals who established eligibility for the registration examination on or before December 31, 2023, or were registered before January 1, 2024).
- Master’s Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field (required for those establishing eligibility for the registration examination on or after January 1, 2024).
- Current Registered Dietitian (RD) certification from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
- Michigan Driver’s License (required for Home Care Business Lines).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) (1 year required).
