Responsibilities

  • Assess dental condition and needs of patient using patient screening procedures, including medical history review, dental charting, and perio charting
  • Deliver direct patient care using established dental hygienist procedures
  • Take patient vital signs
  • Perform routine treatment procedures, such as cleaning and polishing
  • Take radiographs required for diagnosis of treatment needs by the dentist
  • Apply sealants and fluorides
  • Maintain electronic record keeping
  • Document patient dental history and chief complaint
  • Record and report pertinent observations
  • Teach patients how to prevent tooth decay and gum disease through proper diet and oral home care
  • Clean and sterilize instruments
  • Complete Treatment Plan as prescribed by the dentist
  • Review and explain treatment plan and associated fees with patient
  • Articulate and express patients' concerns to dentist
  • Serve as primary treatment coordinator
  • Perform ancillary duties as needed

Requirements

  • Completed dental hygiene certificate program or Associate's degree in Dental Hygiene
  • Current Hygienist license for the state of Virginia
  • New graduates welcome
