About the Role

The Registered Dental Assistant is a member of the interdisciplinary health care team at Northeast Community Clinic, responsible for providing complete in-scope care for all patients under the direction of the supervising licensed dentist(s) and the Dental Director, following written protocols of the Management Staff.

Schedule

Flexible; may require some evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Perform duties as approved by NECC privileging, including but not limited to: X-Rays/imaging, removal of sutures and dressings, coronal polishing, taking impressions, applying fluoride, administering topical medications, applying pit and fissure sealants, removing excess cement, adjusting dentures extra-orally, and fabrication/placement of temporary crowns.
  • Perform all procedures within the scope of RDA training and as approved by NECC’s Privileging.
  • Support the dentist in increasing workflow and efficiency capabilities of the clinic.
  • Ensure optimized treatment planning, including updating patient dental records and providing preventative/routine dental care based on patient needs.
  • Provide patient education on brushing, flossing, overall oral/dental health, and the importance of routine dental visits.
  • Ensure NECC’s Dental Quality Improvement goals and initiatives are met.
  • Cross-train in all front and back-office duties.
  • Collaborate with other dental team members to meet patient care needs, including access to care, efficient workflow, and high-quality service.
  • Maintain a clean and organized working environment in accordance with safety and infection control procedures.
  • Communicate with the Dental Manager to ensure supplies are stocked, orders are placed, equipment receives routine maintenance, staffing coverage is met, and issues impacting patient care are addressed.
  • Participate in staff meetings, assist in training staff, improve operational flow, and ensure optimal patient care.
  • Maintain a positive and professional working relationship with all staff.
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned by Management.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Ability to work as a team player and independently.
  • Reliable transportation; must be able to travel between facilities.
  • 10% travel outside the local area required.

Qualifications

  • Dental Assistant Certificate, Certified Dental Assistant, or higher.
  • High School Diploma and/or GED equivalent preferred but not required.
  • Proof of completing a radiation safety course.
  • Active CA license and certification as a Registered Dental Assistant.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience as a Registered Dental Assistant.
  • Knowledge of Dentrix and Digital X-rays preferred.
  • Commitment to the goals and philosophy of Northeast Community Clinic.
  • Current CPR and/or BLS Certification.
  • Valid State Identification.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • OSHA Category 1 – Involves exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.
  • Majority of work is sedentary but requires regular communication, repetitive motions, and mobility in office/clinic settings.
  • Regularly push, pull, and lift up to 20 pounds; occasionally up to 40 pounds.
  • Must possess stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions, read printed materials, use a computer, and communicate in person and over the telephone.
