Registered Dental Assistant

About the Role

Big Smiles, a school-based mobile dental practice, is seeking a Registered Dental Assistant in Oakland, CA and surrounding areas to help provide dental care to underserved children at their school. Our innovative in-school dental program offers a workday that ends with the school day and no nights or weekends, providing a diverse and different working environment ideal for working parents and anyone who wants to make a difference in the dental field.

Big Smiles is the nation's leading in-school dental program, founded almost two decades ago by two dentists who are also moms. We address the tremendous need among underserved school-aged children who lack easy access to dental care. Today, we provide preventative and restorative care to approximately 500,000 children per year across 20 states, partnering with over 8,000 school districts.

Responsibilities

• Provide dental assisting services during mobile dental clinics
• Perform digital X-ray imaging
• Maintain patient records and charting
• Set up, break down, and sterilize equipment
• Travel daily to and from school sites

Requirements

• Active CPR certification
• 1+ years of experience as a Dental Assistant (DA)
• 1+ years of digital X-ray imaging experience
• Valid driver license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel locally
• Ability to work well with children and adults
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; organized, detail-oriented, and able to multi-task
• Must be able to carry up to 50 lbs
• Able to walk several flights of stairs on occasion (many schools lack elevators)
• Coronal Polishing/Sealant certification
• X-Ray Certification
