About the role

The Fleet Service Technician is responsible for servicing, maintaining, and diagnosing fleet vehicles to ensure uninterrupted business operations and compliance with safety regulations. This role emphasizes preventive maintenance and addresses reported issues to keep employees safe and the fleet operational.

Responsibilities

  • Repairs, maintains, services, and inspects fleet vehicles, equipment, and components.
  • Maintains and inspects all components related to medium trucks, heavy duty trucks, and light duty vehicles (including engine chassis, air brakes/ABS, steering, suspension, transmissions, clutches, differentials, hydraulic and electrical systems).
  • Operates vehicles, equipment, and tools such as power tools, mobile lifts, wheel balancers, test equipment, etc.
  • Performs DOT/ANSI/OSHA inspections, troubleshooting, and diagnosing.
  • Performs general body repair and fabrication tasks on cab and bodies/beds of light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks and trailers.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and minor repairs on equipment.
  • Initiates service calls and orders necessary parts for maintenance and repairs.
  • Inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs mobile hydraulic systems, hoses, lines, cylinders, pumps, power take-offs, control valves, relief valves, holding valves, selector valves, and various hydraulic components.
  • Fulfills safety standards set by Badger and transportation regulatory authorities.
  • Manages priorities for inspections and maintenance activities.
  • Maintains and cleans the service truck.
  • Travels to conduct remote repairs.
  • Enforces safety practices and transportation policies.
  • Removes fleet assets from service as needed to ensure fleet safety and mechanical functionality.
  • Collaborates on design modifications and provides feedback to engineering on potential improvements.
  • Supports fleet safety practices through documentation and updates.
  • Supports asset tracking, utilization, and system updates.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent with automotive repair training from a technical or vocational school or similar.
  • Paccar technician certifications and/or National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) credential preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with diesel truck maintenance and repair.
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred or must be able to obtain one.
  • Experience driving a manual transmission (10-18 speed) preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently without close supervision.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Physical capability to lift 50 pounds, stand/walk for extended periods, climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, and work in various weather conditions.
