About the Role
BlueLinx is seeking a Regional Product Sales Manager responsible for the development and management of customer relationships for assigned products. The role works within a multidisciplinary development team charged with strengthening and expanding our internal wood products manufacturing portfolio. This position is responsible for product development, planning, and marketing throughout the product lifecycle, including gathering and prioritizing product and customer requirements, defining the product line vision, and working closely with manufacturing, engineering, and sales to deliver a winning portfolio.
The Regional Product Sales Manager aligns resources to ensure all product development and marketing efforts support the company’s overall strategy and goals, working closely with Branch General Managers, Territory Managers, centralized category management, and the national Marketing team to meet revenue and customer satisfaction goals.
Responsibilities
- Drive the product and business-planning processes for cross-functional teams.
- Analyze customer needs, current market trends, and potential partnerships from an ROI perspective.
- Assess current competitor offerings and seek opportunities for differentiation.
- Analyze product requirements and develop appropriate programs to ensure alignment.
- Develop, implement, and maintain production timelines across multiple departments.
- Appraise new product ideas and strategize appropriate go-to-market plans.
- Responsible for forecasting and product planning in relationship to the overall manufacturing schedule.
- Manage stock/non-stock product life cycle, designate target lead times, and project product sunsetting strategy.
- Work closely with branch leadership and sales as well as marketing to ensure budgeted revenue goals are met.
- Define the product strategy for CMA and the overall product roadmap (stock, custom, sunset).
- Manage any third-party vendors that support the product line in product development.
- Work with internal and external parties to establish partnerships and licensing opportunities.
- Be an expert with respect to the competitive product landscape.
- Develop the core positioning and messaging for the product.
- Perform product demos to internal and external customers including trade shows.
- Set pricing to meet revenue and profitability goals.
- Deliver a monthly revenue forecast.
- Develop sales tools and collateral.
- Propose an overall budget to ensure success.
- Lead virtual and live training & education at sales meetings and field events.
- Drive the execution of all processes within the product lifecycle, including product and market research, competitor analysis, planning, positioning, requirements and roadmap development, and product launch.
- Translate product strategy into detailed requirements for prototyping and final development by engineering teams.
- Create product strategy documents designed to describe the specific business cases, high-level use cases, technical requirements, revenue potential, and expected ROI.
- Analyze market data to develop sales strategies and define product objectives for effective marketing communications.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, production, Marketing, and sales teams in the development, QA, and release of products, and balance resources to ensure success for the entire organization.
- Develop product positioning and messaging that differentiates BlueLinx across primary market segments.
Requirements
- BS/BA Degree in related field preferred. MS/MA/MBA a plus.
- 6-8 years of experience preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Product Manager or Product Marketing Manager.
- 5+ years of experience in the building products industry.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Technical background, with experience in wood materials.
- Excellent teamwork skills.
- Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority.
- Must be able to travel 25% of the time.
- High effectiveness in working across cross-functional teams.
- Experience in delivering finely tuned product marketing strategies.
- Strong writing skills, combined with strong presentation and public speaking skills.
