Position Summary
The Regional Practice Leader – Transportation Planning is responsible for launching, leading, and scaling a regional transportation planning practice that supports Tetra Tech’s broader Transportation Practice. This role drives strategic growth, client development, technical excellence, and team leadership while advancing digital planning solutions and positioning the practice for national expansion.
Essential Job Functions
- Establish and implement a regional growth strategy for Transportation Planning with an initial focus on Texas.
- Build and lead a startup practice model, including organizational structure, service offerings, and financial performance.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities with MPOs, DOTs, and regional and local transportation agencies.
- Lead business development efforts, including proposals, Statements of Qualifications (SOQs), and capture planning activities.
- Direct the delivery of transportation and urban planning projects, including long-range plans, corridor studies, multimodal strategies, and travel demand modeling.
- Integrate digital tools and analytics, including myProjects, GIS, and data-driven planning approaches.
- Ensure compliance with FHWA, USDOT, NEPA, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
- Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of planners, analysts, and engineers.
- Collaborate with transportation design, environmental, ITS, and digital delivery teams to provide integrated solutions.
- Represent U.S. planning initiatives in global practice coordination and annual transportation leadership forums.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Transportation Planning, Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, or a related field.
- Minimum of 15 years of progressive leadership experience in transportation planning or related disciplines.
- Demonstrated ability to build, grow, and lead a professional practice, including business development and team leadership.
- Strong relationships with MPOs, DOTs, and regional transportation agencies.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and project management skills.
- Willingness to travel regionally and nationally as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Transportation Planning, Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional certifications such as AICP, P.E., or PTOE.
- Experience with digital planning platforms, including myProjects, GIS, and data analytics tools.
- Experience leading multimodal, performance-based, or technology-enabled transportation planning programs.
