Key Responsibilities
- Perform single-mode (SM) and multi-mode (MM) fiber optic splicing using fusion and mechanical splicers.
- Conduct OTDR testing and use Exfo FTB-1 or similar equipment for fiber characterization and troubleshooting.
- Install, prep, and seal both pressurized and non-pressurized closures.
- Read and interpret network prints, splice diagrams, and work instructions accurately.
- Troubleshoot and repair damaged or degraded fiber cases and network components.
- Collaborate with OSP engineers and project managers to ensure work quality and completion timelines.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of splicing activities and test results.
- Adhere to safety standards and company protocols during all field operations.
Required Skills & Education
- 5+ years of hands-on experience performing fiber optic splicing in active OSP environments.
- 5+ years using OTDR and fusion splicing equipment for diagnostics and performance testing.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting network documentation and splice plans.
- Skilled in network troubleshooting, plant audits, and rehab of existing fiber infrastructure.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Able to work independently, manage workload, and deliver accurate production reports.
- Comfortable working in aerial lifts, confined spaces, and varying field conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years supporting major service providers (e.g., Verizon, Cox, AT&T).
- Experience with Exfo FTB-1 OTDR equipment.
- CFOT (Certified Fiber Optic Technician) certification.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail in high-volume production splicing environments.
