About the role

Join Amazon’s mission to become Earth’s safest place to work. As the WHS Manager, you will lead a comprehensive safety program, serving as the site’s safety pioneer and orchestrating the Global WHS Program. You will partner with Operations leadership to integrate safety into daily operations, using data-driven insights to reduce risk and enhance productivity. This role requires building and developing a high-performing WHS team while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence.

The position focuses on supporting sites and WHS staff across North American regions to drive safety excellence, ensure compliance, and oversee incident management, investigations, and emergency preparedness. You will conduct business reviews, leadership meetings, and regular site inspections while maintaining stakeholder relationships and implementing safety initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Transform safety culture through leadership and innovative solutions, driving continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Leverage technology and data analytics to implement preventive safety measures that protect associates while enhancing operational excellence.
  • Develop leadership plans, communicate expectations, and measure performance against WHS policies.
  • Conduct site audits and analyze metrics to address non-compliance issues.
  • Build partnerships with Operations leadership to integrate safety into all aspects of the business.
  • Use data analysis and risk insights to influence positive change and drive strategic decision-making.
  • Oversee recordkeeping, workplace organization, and WHS training programs.
  • Lead incident management and investigations, ensuring thorough and timely resolution.
  • Manage staff development, training, and performance monitoring for WHS professionals.
  • Monitor safety assessments, compliance, and emergency preparedness programs.
  • Maintain stakeholder relationships and communicate safety performance effectively.
  • Implement lean principles and process improvements in operational environments.

Requirements

  • Flexibility to travel 50-70% of the time and work various shifts.
  • Ability to lift up to 49 pounds and frequently push, pull, squat, bend, and reach.
  • Stand/walk for up to 12 hours during shifts.
  • Work in environments with variable noise levels and temperatures (including outdoor loading areas).
  • Continuously climb and descend stairs (where applicable).
  • Maintain effective care delivery in emergencies and assist emergency response at the site.
  • Obtain adult First Aid, CPR, and AED certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross within 3 weeks of start date (if not already certified).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 5+ years of increasing responsibilities in EHS and/or environmental programs in manufacturing, production, or service operations.
  • 5+ years of increasing responsibilities in people and performance management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Distribution Center or Manufacturing WHS experience with a mix of exempt and non-exempt employees at a site of at least 250 people.
  • Master’s degree.
  • Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment.
  • Experience in a fast-paced, dynamic organization.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including comfort interfacing with site leaders.
  • Ability to develop and implement department goals and strategies.
  • Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem-solving ability.

Pay

  • USA, AR, Lowell: $94,200.00 - $141,400.00 USD annually
  • USA, IA, Ankeny: $94,200.00 - $141,400.00 USD annually
  • USA, LA, Elmwood: $94,200.00 - $141,400.00 USD annually
  • USA, ND, Fargo: $84,800.00 - $127,200.00 USD annually
  • USA, OK, Oklahoma City: $84,800.00 - $127,200.00 USD annually
  • USA, SD, North Sioux Falls: $84,800.00 - $127,200.00 USD annually
