Business Development$200k/yrFull-time

Janney is an award-winning full-service financial services firm committed to understanding our clients' needs and providing advice beyond investments. We are equally committed to building a diverse workforce and inclusive culture where employees can use their talents to thrive and grow professionally with the firm.

About the Role

As part of a deliberate strategy to expand our footprint, we're looking for an entrepreneurial Regional Director to join the senior leadership team of our Private Client Group. This is a high-visibility executive role: you won't just run a region, you'll build it — establishing Janney's presence in new markets, recruiting the advisor talent to fill it, and standing up the branch leadership bench to sustain it. The role reports directly to the President of the Private Client Group and focuses on expansion into new West Coast (CA, OR, WA) or Southwest (AZ, CO, NV, NM, UT) markets.

Responsibilities

  • Establish Janney's presence in targeted new geographies across the region, market by market.
  • Recruit and onboard exceptional Financial Advisors to a firm and region on the rise.
  • Identify, hire, and develop branch leaders where infrastructure is still being formed.
  • Accelerate organic growth and advisor productivity as the region scales.
  • Instill an advisor-centric, entrepreneurial culture from day one across every new office.
  • Build high-performing teams by recruiting, inspiring, and developing branch leaders, often from scratch.
  • Design and execute the strategy to expand Janney's presence in new geographic markets.
  • Lead regional strategies that increase advisor productivity, client acquisition, asset growth, and financial planning engagement.
  • Partner with branch leaders to identify growth opportunities and execute business development initiatives.
  • Champion advisor teaming and practice management best practices as new offices come online.
  • Serve as Janney's lead ambassador in the region for attracting experienced Financial Advisors.
  • Build relationships with prospective recruits and tell a compelling story about Janney's differentiated platform and culture.
  • Collaborate with Executive Leadership, other Regional Directors, Home Office partners, and Field Councils to deliver an exceptional client and advisor experience.
  • Balance an aggressive growth agenda with strong risk management and regulatory oversight.
  • Lead regional planning, budgeting, and resource allocation for a region built for growth.
  • Monitor branch performance, profitability, and operational effectiveness as the footprint expands.
  • Execute strategic initiatives that improve long-term regional performance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • FINRA Series 7, 9, 10, and 66 (or 63 & 65) required; Series 24 preferred.
  • 15+ years of field leadership experience within a broker-dealer or wealth management organization.
  • Significant experience leading large, geographically dispersed management teams.
  • Demonstrated success recruiting, retaining, and developing Financial Advisors — ideally in growth or de novo markets within the West or Southwest footprint.
  • Strong understanding of advisor recruiting, organic growth, practice management, compensation models, and competitive market dynamics.
  • Proven ability to execute growth strategies and build businesses, not just maintain them.
  • Exceptional communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills.
  • Deep understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements within wealth management.
  • Willingness to travel regularly throughout the assigned region.

Skills

You're an accomplished, entrepreneurial executive who combines strategic thinking with a genuine passion for building — teams, markets, and people. You excel at:

  • Building high-performing leadership teams, often from the ground up.
  • Influencing across complex organizations.
  • Coaching leaders to achieve exceptional results.
  • Driving business growth through hands-on execution.
  • Creating a culture of accountability, inclusion, and collaboration.
  • Balancing entrepreneurial thinking with disciplined risk management.

Benefits

  • Equity ownership opportunities.
  • Competitive base salary and performance-based incentives.
  • Generous Paid Time Off.
  • Parental Leave.
  • Professional development and leadership investment.
  • Comprehensive benefits including health, dental, medical coverage, disability income protection, life insurance, PTO/vacation, holidays, and 401(k).

Pay

The compensation package for this position consists of a base salary of $200,000 + incentive, with total compensation potential of $500,000+. Incentives include participation in the discretionary corporate bonus pool, growth incentive bonuses, and management equity program.
