About the role
The Regional Development Director leads a $3M–$6M fundraising portfolio for Teach Plus, a national nonprofit focused on empowering teachers to lead in education policy and practice. Key responsibilities include developing and executing fundraising strategies, building donor pipelines, and supporting executive directors in securing major gifts.
Responsibilities
- Serve as Portfolio Manager for Executive Directors across a portfolio of 5–7 states, focusing on building and maintaining strong relationships with current and prospective funders.
- Partner with Executive Directors to expand their fundraising pipelines through relationship mapping, prospect research, and strategic use of external engagements.
- Lead preparation for and participation in funder meetings, managing key development initiatives, and collaborating across regional and national departments.
- Support and co-lead professional development on fundraising practices, creating pipeline building, cultivation, and stewardship planning tools, and providing coaching for Executive Directors.
- Develop and execute a new strand of individual giving across the portfolio, conducting prospect research, developing messaging, and preparing Executive Directors for individual fundraising meetings.
- Collaborate with various departments to drive the identification of opportunities to tell Teach Plus' story through media, including cross-functional collaboration and the development of compelling collateral.
Requirements
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant nonprofit experience, including 3–5 years of fund raising and prospecting.
- Proven ability to develop and implement fundraising strategies that increase revenue and strengthen donor relationships.
- Experience launching and growing individual giving programs and building pipelines in emerging regions.
- Track record of deepening donor engagement and stewardship, resulting in sustained support and long-term relationships.
- Experience preparing executives to solicit major gifts.
- Demonstrated success in expanding donor pipelines and increasing contributions across multiple states or regions.
- Ability to manage multiple fundraising initiatives effectively, ensuring timely completion and measurable results.
- Proficiency in fundraising tools and data analysis (e.g., Salesforce, Asana) to track engagement and inform decisions.
- Strong communication skills, able to create compelling proposals, reports, and donor materials that inspire support.
- Effective project management and collaboration skills, capable of driving cross-team initiatives that deliver tangible outcomes.
