Regional Dentist

About the role

The Regional Dentist serves as the supervisor of the Region 9/10 Oral Health program and provides preventive oral health services to eligible populations. They also work with other regional managers to coordinate activities that will optimize the dental public health of the region.

Responsibilities

• [60%] Preventive Dentistry: Leads HSR 9/10 oral health initiatives, plans and prioritizes preventive activities, supervises and evaluates the Regional Dental Hygienist, coordinates dental screening and sealant projects in regional schools, and maintains data sets.
• [10%] Professional Development and Community Support: Develops and maintains liaison relationships with dental professional groups and public/private organizations, supports other regional community health services team members, and serves as a supporting member for regional oral health coalitions.
• [10%] Personnel Policies: Implements policies and procedures as outlined in the departmental human resources manual, assists the dental hygienist in maintaining qualifications and obtaining required training, and completes the annual performance evaluation for the dental hygienist.
• [10%] Technical Assistance: Provides technical assistance and consultation on regional dental program activities and services.
• [10%] Other Duties as Assigned: Participates in disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation as needed.

Requirements

• Current license to practice dentistry in Texas.
• Current CPR certification.
• Valid Class C Texas driver’s license or equivalent license from another state.
• 5 years experience working in dentistry.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of modern dentistry, social and economic issues in public health dentistry, fiscal and budgetary operations, field research activities, statistical methodologies, and dental epidemiology.
• Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and agency laws, regulations, and policies.
• Knowledge of principles of education.
• Skills in staff development, liaison activities, managing multiple priorities, communication, public speaking, and problem-solving.
• Ability to operate a state-owned vehicle or personal vehicle for state business.

Pay

$8,488.33 - $11,422.16 monthly

Schedule

Day shift, up to 60% travel, up to 25% travel outside of 8:00am to 5:00pm M-F.
