About the Role

The Regional Controller leads financial management and accounting operations, providing strategic financial leadership while ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, effective internal controls, and operational support for regional business leaders. This role partners closely with operations, corporate finance, and executive leadership to drive financial performance, improve processes, and support business growth. A successful candidate combines technical accounting expertise with strong leadership and business acumen, demonstrating high organization, data-driven decision-making, collaboration, and a commitment to operational excellence and financial integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Financial Management
    • Lead all regional accounting and financial reporting activities, identifying opportunities to expedite the month-end close process.
    • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
    • Develop processes to monitor financial performance and provide analysis of key business drivers, trends, and variances.
    • Provide recommendations to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
  • Accounting & Compliance
    • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), company policies, and regulatory requirements.
    • Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets.
    • Oversee account reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end/year-end close processes.
    • Coordinate internal and external audits and implement audit recommendations.
    • Ensure compliance with tax reporting and statutory requirements in coordination with corporate finance.
  • Leadership & Operations
    • Lead, mentor, and develop regional accounting and finance staff.
    • Build a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
    • Partner with regional operational leaders to support business objectives and strategic initiatives.
    • Evaluate and improve financial processes and reporting systems.
    • Support acquisitions, integrations, and other special projects as needed.

Requirements

  • Education
    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
    • CPA designation strongly preferred.
    • MBA or advanced degree is a plus.
  • Experience
    • 8–12 years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
    • Minimum of 3–5 years in a leadership or controller role.
    • Experience overseeing multi-location or regional financial operations.
    • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
    • Experience with Sage accounting software and Service Titan is preferred.
    • Experience in the commercial HVAC and plumbing industry is preferred.
    • Periodic regional travel: 10%–25%.
