Sunshine Disposal & Recycling is seeking a full-time Refuse Truck Driver for our Lewiston, ID business unit.

About the role

Operate Automated refuse collection trucks in residential and commercial locations. Work shift is Monday–Friday, 6:30 am–2:30 pm.

Responsibilities

  • Arrive on time, receive paperwork/tablet, and perform pre-trip inspection; complete DVIR form per state, local, and federal regulations. Report any maintenance needs to Supervisor before moving truck.
  • Drive truck on fixed routes in the same geographic area daily and weekly using provided route information and maps.
  • On residential routes, position carts for truck to dump, including extra items.
  • On commercial routes, open/close container enclosures and position containers/carts by pulling or pushing.
  • Communicate effectively with Route Supervisor and office to resolve dispatch or route issues; report any problems immediately.
  • Dump/empty truck at the end of the day at the designated location; perform basic clean-out of truck body and cab.
  • Perform post-trip inspection, complete post-trip DVIR, and report any maintenance needs to Lead Driver and Maintenance Shop.
  • Submit route work information via tablet data and paper notes, including extra charges and customer notes, each day.
  • Attend all scheduled meetings (safety, training, company) at the Sunshine Disposal & Recycling facility.
  • Perform special projects for the Operations Manager and other management team members.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Class A or B CDL (no air brake restriction) and valid US DOT medical card.
  • Must meet carrier insurability requirements and comply with FMCSA drug testing rules.
  • Two years of CDL Class A or B commercial driving experience.
  • Basic computer literacy; on-the-job training provided for industry-specific programs.
  • Must complete all company-assigned safety training.

Physical Abilities

  • Constantly (5+ hours/day): sit, stand, see, hear, walk, reach, grasp, fine finger manipulation, wrist flexion, operate foot controls.
  • Frequently (3–4 hours/day): climb, bend, pull/push (up to 60 pounds).
  • Occasionally (1–2 hours/day): lift (up to 60 pounds), crawl, stoop/crouch, twist.
  • Must clearly see 20+ feet (with or without corrective lenses) and differentiate between colors.

Safety Matters

  • Modern fleet equipped with dash/drive cameras (outward and driver-facing) and tablet technology for route work.
  • Use of cellular phones and personal electronic devices while driving is prohibited.
  • No smoking or vaping allowed in vehicles.

Pay

Starting wage is $23.79 per hour, with wage bumps at 6, 12, and 18 months, plus annual COLA beginning in 2027.

Schedule
