Responsibilities
- Performs pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Completes required reports and logs.
- Drives a refuse collection truck along an assigned route to collect solid waste, commercial waste, or yard waste.
- Transports refuse to landfill.
- Washes exterior of vehicle; keeps interior free of trash.
- Performs routine maintenance on truck; checks fuel, oil and other fluids.
- Oversees the work of personnel assigned to the truck.
- Follows all traffic laws and regulations.
- Maintains radio contact with dispatcher.
- Performs related duties.
Requirements
- Knowledge of city streets and landmarks.
- Knowledge of equipment operation principles.
- Knowledge of traffic laws.
- Knowledge of department and city policies and procedures, and federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.
- Skill in the supervision of personnel.
- Skill in the operation of assigned vehicles and equipment.
- Skill in problem solving.
- Skill in interpersonal relations.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Valid Georgia CDL Class “B” Required.
