About the role

The Refrigeration Technician position at Publix Industrial Refrigeration involves servicing HVAC and refrigeration systems in non-retail facilities to ensure a climate-controlled environment. Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical and electrical equipment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and operate HVAC and refrigeration systems in the Jacksonville area.
• Perform predictive and preventative maintenance procedures on various systems including rooftop package units, split HVAC systems, walk-in coolers and freezers, ice machines, and chilled water systems.
• Guide and train entry-level refrigeration technicians in day-to-day operations, inspections, repairs, and regulatory compliance.
• Participate in improvement activities to enhance HVAC and refrigeration systems, prioritize tasks, and minimize downtime.
• Carry out general housekeeping duties such as cleaning equipment, maintaining work areas, and driving company vehicles.

Requirements

• Must be at least 20 years old.
• Valid driver's license and authorization to drive a company vehicle immediately after start date.
• Ability to obtain EPA Section 608 certification within six months of start date.
• Medical clearance to wear respiratory protection within two weeks of start date.
• At least one year of experience in electrical systems, including single and three-phase motor systems, power distribution, and low-voltage controls.
• At least one year of experience with 480VAC three-phase motor control systems.
• At least two years of experience in HVAC, chilled water, and refrigeration, including maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of refrigeration systems.
• Ability to read and interpret schematics and drawings.
• Ability to respond to unplanned breakdowns with urgency.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting techniques.
• Compliance with OSHA, PSM, HAZMAT, and Publix safety programs and regulations.
• Basic computer skills using Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
• Knowledge of proper handling and recycling instructions for CFC and HCFC.
• Self-motivation, independent work capability, and good work habits.
