Refrigeration Technician (Ammonia)
About the role
Dessert Holdings is seeking an Industrial Refrigeration Technician (Ammonia) to support preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and emergency response for refrigeration systems in a manufacturing environment. This role focuses on the safe operation and maintenance of ammonia (NH3) refrigeration equipment, while ensuring compliance with safety, food, and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance on industrial refrigeration equipment, including ammonia (NH3) and related systems
- Receive, initiate, and complete preventive maintenance and scheduled work orders
- Respond to refrigeration alarms, system issues, and emergency maintenance situations
- Perform ammonia system pump-downs and system isolation when required
- Coordinate outside contractors in accordance with safety and plant procedures
- Assist with installation, maintenance, and repair of refrigeration and related equipment
- Understand and comply with GMP, HACCP, food safety, and plant safety procedures
- Maintain accurate maintenance and work order documentation
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Manufacturing environment with temperatures ranging from -20F to 120F. Ability to lift and/or carry objects up to 50 lbs. Ability to walk, stand, climb, bend, crawl, and work in confined spaces. Ability to respond quickly and move efficiently in emergency situations.
Qualifications
- Experience working with industrial ammonia refrigeration systems is required
- Refrigeration schooling with 1+ year of related experience, OR 3+ years of relevant refrigeration experience without formal schooling
- Welding and/or brazing experience
- Electrical troubleshooting skills
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and maintenance manuals
- Basic mathematical skills
- Willingness to work overtime or extended hours as required
Preferred Certifications
- Process Safety Management (PSM) training or certification a plus
- EPA Type II Certification preferred
Pre-Employment Requirements
Ability to pass a drug test, background check, fit test, and pulmonary function test. Willingness to complete confined space and safety training as required.
Pay and Schedule
Pay Range: $25 - $35 per hour. Job Type: Full-time. Work Location: In person, 2nd shift (2:00pm - 10:00pm).
