About the role

The Refrigeration Maintenance role ensures the safe and efficient operation of the manufacturing plant refrigeration system, boiler system, air compressors, and hot water system. This position performs daily preventative maintenance tasks, inspections, testing, troubleshooting, and repairs of plant refrigeration, boiler, air compressor, and hot water equipment and components.

Responsibilities

  • Assure all safety precautions and health hazards with ammonia are followed per Tyson requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with state, federal, and local agencies, including OSHA and the EPA.
  • Maintain, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair the following equipment:
    • HOWDEN, SULLAIR, & MYCOM ammonia compressors, condensers, valve stations
    • Heat exchangers, pump packages, liquid ammonia pumps
    • Air units, refrigeration PLC, and all control components
    • Boilers
    • Air compressors
    • Hot water system
  • Maintain components in optimal operating condition to meet Food Industry Standards for temperature requirements.
  • Participate as an Emergency Response Team Member.
  • Follow specific verbal and written instructions and procedures.
  • Use effective communication skills, including technical writing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • PSM experience.
  • Experience working with anhydrous ammonia systems, including mechanical and electrical repairs.
  • Ammonia Response Training preferred.
  • Ability to obtain SCBA certification and use a fully encapsulated chemical suit in emergencies.
  • Ability to travel and attend training 1-2 trips per year.
  • Ability to pass IIAR Training modules for ammonia refrigeration.
  • Familiarity with preventative maintenance programs.
  • 1 year of industrial maintenance, electrical training, and 1 year of ammonia refrigeration or HVAC operator experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Willing and able to perform physical job requirements with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Lift and carry 50 pounds or more.
  • Move between production areas, stand, stoop, climb ladders, change work levels, twist, squat, climb stairs, reach, push, pull, and move about the facility.
  • Work in temperatures between 30-100 degrees Fahrenheit.

Pay

Leveling (pay) is determined during the interview process based on skillset, knowledge, and experience. A $5,000 sign-on bonus is offered for new hires, paid out in two installments: $2,500 after 90 days and $2,500 after 180 days. Rehires are not eligible for the sign-on bonus.

Schedule

This position follows a 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM rotating schedule. The facility operates seven days a week.
