Referral Specialist - Minot Ave Family Medicine

About the role

The Department of Minot Ave Family Medicine at Central Maine Medical Center is seeking a full-time, day-shift Referral Specialist.

Responsibilities

• Liaise between insurance, healthcare providers, and clinics to ensure correct processing of required referrals for medical specialty visits.
• Schedule referrals for patients at the request of providers and/or staff.
• Communicate directly with clinics, referred clinics, and patients.
• Review clinical data to report medical necessity to insurance companies.
• Make referrals to specialists for office practices along with prior authorization.
• File and scan patient reports, retrieve patient records for prior authorizations or medical records, and complete insurance prior authorizations.
• Convey a positive image of the organization and maintain a positive customer-friendly attitude for both internal and external customers.

Requirements

• Two years of experience in a clinic work environment preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Completion of a medical assistant program desired.
• Certified within six months of hire.
• Knowledge of electronic medical systems.
• Excellent phone skills and customer service skills.
• A positive, upbeat, and customer-friendly attitude towards internal and external customers.
• Knowledge of prior authorizations and insurance plans.
• Good organizational skills.
• Ability to act as a patient liaison to help them navigate the healthcare system.
• Self-starter and able to multitask.
• Ability to organize and troubleshoot scheduling and referral issues and provide solutions.
• Detailed orientated.
• Ability to work in a changing environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of a medical assistant program desired.
• Certified within six months of hire.

Pay
