Referral Specialist - Minot Ave Family Medicine
About the role
The Department of Minot Ave Family Medicine at Central Maine Medical Center is seeking a full-time, day-shift Referral Specialist.
Responsibilities
- Liaise between insurance, healthcare providers, and clinics to ensure correct processing of required referrals for medical specialty visits.
- Schedule referrals for patients at the request of providers and/or staff.
- Communicate directly with clinics, referred clinics, and patients.
- Review clinical data to report medical necessity to insurance companies.
- Make referrals to specialists for office practices along with prior authorization.
- File and scan patient reports, retrieve patient records for prior authorizations or medical records, and complete insurance prior authorizations.
- Convey a positive image of the organization and maintain a positive customer-friendly attitude for both internal and external customers.
Requirements
- Two years of experience in a clinic work environment preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
- Completion of a medical assistant program desired.
- Certified within six months of hire.
- Knowledge of electronic medical systems.
- Excellent phone skills and customer service skills.
- A positive, upbeat, and customer-friendly attitude towards internal and external customers.
- Knowledge of prior authorizations and insurance plans.
- Good organizational skills.
- Ability to act as a patient liaison to help them navigate the healthcare system.
- Self-starter and able to multitask.
- Ability to organize and troubleshoot scheduling and referral issues and provide solutions.
- Detailed orientated.
- Ability to work in a changing environment.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a medical assistant program desired.

Pay
