About the role
The Referral Coordinator/HIMS schedules and pre-registers patients for exams and procedures with specialists and providers outside of the primary care physician's office. This role performs varied activities and moderately complex administrative, operational, and customer support assignments, including computations. Typically works on semi-routine assignments while gathering and communicating all relevant information and preparation instructions to patients and referring providers.
Decisions focus on the interpretation of area/department policy and methods for completing assignments. Work is performed within defined parameters to identify work expectations and quality standards but allows some latitude over prioritization and timing. Follows standard policies that provide opportunities for interpretation, deviation, and independent discretion.
This role is considered patient-facing and is part of the company's Tuberculosis (TB) screening program. If selected, you will be required to be screened for TB.
Responsibilities
- Schedule and pre-register patients for exams and procedures with external specialists and providers.
- Perform moderately complex administrative, operational, and customer support tasks.
- Gather and communicate relevant information and preparation instructions to patients and referring providers.
- Interpret and apply area/department policies and methods to complete assignments.
- Exercise independent discretion within defined parameters for prioritization and timing.
Requirements
- Less than 3 years of hands-on healthcare experience in a clinical setting, preferably within the Medicare population.
- Proficiency with medical terminology.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
- Excellent professional communication abilities at all levels within the organization and with patients.
- Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences.
- Must be willing to undergo TB screening as part of the company’s screening program.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare or Business Administration.
- Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding.
- Referral experience.
- Medical Assistant or Professional State Certifications related to healthcare.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Pay
The pay range for this full-time (40 hours per week) position is $40,000 - $52,300 per year. The range may vary based on geographic location, and individual pay will depend on demonstrated job-related skills, knowledge, experience, education, and certifications.
