Reference and Learning Services Assistant Librarian

About the role

Instruction and Information Literacy Design and deliver engaging library instruction sessions across all academic disciplines, utilizing the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy
Support emerging AI literacy initiatives by helping students critically evaluate AI generated content and understand ethical implications of generative tools.
Create and maintain asynchronous learning tools, such as research guides (LibGuides) and modules embedded within the college's Learning Management System (LMS).

Responsibilities

  • Provide impromptu and scheduled research consultations in person, via phone, and trough virtual platforms.
  • Absorb and explain the use of reference resources and library equipment.
  • Manage day-to-day maintenance of the library website and digital instructional tools.
  • Record and review statistics related to library instruction and research support to document library services and support assessment activities.
  • Ensure digital instructional materials meet current accessibility standards.
  • Contribute to public services by providing virtual reference support (such as LibChat) and occasional backup assistance at the circulation desk as needed.
  • Assist in identifying and acquiring print and electronic resources that align with the curriculum.
  • Participate in the physical maintenance of the collection and assist in supervising or training library interns.
  • Contribute to library outreach and engagement through occasional, small-scale activities and support as needed.

Requirements

  • Education: Master's Degree in Library Science (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA accredited program.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with Library Management Systems (ex: Alma) and Springshare/LibGuides. Familiarity with creative tools (ex: Canva) for developing instructional media is a plus.
  • Adaptability: Must be flexible and willing to learn new skills in a rapidly changing information environment.
  • Physical Requirements: The library is a two-story facility with no elevator. The candidate must be able to move between floors regularly to assist patrons and manage collections. Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and stand for various periods, as well as the manual dexterity to handle paper documents and operate computers.
  • Schedule: Flexibility to work an occasional evening or weekend to accommodate the instructional calendar.
