Referee (Attorney)
About the Role
The Commission is seeking resumes from attorneys interested in serving as referees. Referees may be designated to hear and report to the Commission in accordance with Judiciary Law § 499-f or to be present at the testimony given by a prosecutor. Candidates must have at least 15 years of practice and be licensed in New York State. Current prosecutors cannot serve as referees.

Responsibilities
- Hear and report to the Commission in accordance with Judiciary Law § 499-f.
- Be present at the testimony given by a prosecutor when designated.
Requirements
- J.D. with at least 15 years of experience as an attorney.
- Admitted to practice in the State of New York.
- Cannot be a current prosecutor.
Pay
- Referees are compensated at a rate of $550 per day.
- For additional services (e.g., research and post-hearing briefing), referees will be paid an hourly rate of $73.34.
- Reimbursement for travel, meals, and lodging is provided.
About the Commission
The Commission on Prosecutorial Conduct is an independent State agency dedicated to investigating prosecutorial conduct in New York State. It strengthens oversight of prosecutors and holds them to the highest ethical standards. Under Judiciary Law §§ 499-a – 499-j, the Commission has authority to review and investigate prosecutorial conduct, including holding hearings, subpoenaing witnesses, requiring document production, conferring immunity, and transmitting findings to attorney grievance committees. The Commission may also make its findings and recommendations public.
