Recruit Firefighter and Firefighter/Paramedic

Position Summary

Works with assigned Family Services cases to provide family-based case management services to assist families to address identified needs. Families served have issues in areas such as child abuse and neglect, delinquency, parent-child conflict, alcohol and/or drug abuse, uncontrollability, and developmental disabilities.

About the role

This position was part-time for 2008 and has been increased to full-time as part of the 2009 budget. Incumbent: Amy Pechmann

Qualifications

• Works with families to assess and develop goal-oriented, time-limited, family-based service plans to address identified needs
• Protects children, preserves families, or keeps out-of-home placement at minimum effective levels
• Invites active involvement and participation of the child, family, schools, Juvenile Court, health care providers, and other appropriate community resources in resolving problems
• Advises families when services are not available or inappropriate
• Explains the consequences of non-compliance with court orders to families who are involuntarily referred, monitors family utilization of services, and informs the court of family’s adherence to court orders
• Coordinates families’ access to services, monitors cases to ensure that services are provided in an appropriate and timely manner, reviews family progress, and terminates services when family reaches stated goals
• Teaches families about available community resources and how to independently gain access to needed services
• Works to achieve services and treatment objectives without duplication of effort and with maximum effective use of staff time and available resources
• Maintains a complete record for all assigned cases; completes required written assessments, reports, and other related paperwork as necessary
• Attends and participates in weekly staff meetings, supervision times, and other regularly scheduled meetings; develops professional knowledge and skills by attending training events, conferences, and workshops
• Speaks to the community and other organizations to provide public education
• Participates in developing and delivering group programs and services for families (such as family incest treatment, parenting and nurturing, support groups)

Training and Professional Experience Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or a related field
• Minimum of 6 months of paid or unpaid experience in family and children’s case management services
• Substitution: Successful completion of an internship may be substituted for this requirement
• Must have access to private transportation at all times for work-related duties
• Desired: Must be in compliance with State of Wisconsin Social Worker Certification requirements as a condition of employment by meeting one of the following requirements:
• Certified as a Social Worker in Wisconsin
• Be certification eligible and become certified within specified time limits
• Possess a temporary certificate or a temporary training certificate and become certified within specified time limits

Desired Training and Professional Experience Qualifications

• Must be in compliance with State of Wisconsin Social Worker Certification requirements as a condition of employment by meeting one of the following requirements:
• Certified as a Social Worker in Wisconsin
• Be certification eligible and become certified within specified time limits
• Possess a temporary certificate or a temporary training certificate and become certified within specified time limits
