Responsibilities
The overall purpose of this job is to provide recreation therapy to residents. The primary responsibilities include:
- Assessing resident leisure interests, abilities, and skills, as well as life history
- Planning adaptations and support techniques to help residents achieve their recreation, leisure, and social engagement needs
- Implementation of therapeutic programming
- Documentation and evaluation of services provided
- Communicating with residents’ family members
- Coordinating special events with other departments
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Therapy or related field required
- Education or training in geriatrics, including dementia, preferred
- Experience in therapeutic recreation through internships, field experience, volunteering, or work with older adults or special needs populations
- For Nebraska: Completion of Nebraska-certified “Activity Coordinator” course or certified therapeutic recreation specialist within 6 months of hire
- For Iowa: Must be a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) or willing to obtain within 6 months of hire
- Medical clearance for communicable diseases and up-to-date immunizations before direct participant contact
- Valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and reliable transportation
- Basic Life Support (BLS) skills, including Health Care Level CPR, AED, and First Aid
