About the role
Help children and adults across Indiana discover new interests, build confidence, improve physical and emotional wellness, and take part in their communities through therapeutic recreation.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate participant interests, strengths, and abilities and deliver individualized recreational therapy that improves physical, cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and social functioning across homes, community settings, schools, and day programs, in accordance with Indiana Medicaid Waiver requirements and DDSi standards.
- Complete comprehensive recreational therapy assessments.
- Develop individualized treatment plans with measurable goals and objectives.
- Provide one-on-one and small-group recreational therapy services.
- Use evidence-based therapeutic recreation interventions.
- Promote community integration and meaningful leisure participation.
- Improve communication, social interaction, self-confidence, and independence.
- Teach adaptive recreation and leisure skills.
- Encourage healthy lifestyle habits and wellness activities.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate participant care.
- Modify interventions based on participant progress and changing needs.
- Participate in team meetings and interdisciplinary planning.
- Educate families, caregivers, and support staff on therapeutic recreation strategies.
- Conduct ongoing participant evaluations.
- Monitor treatment effectiveness using objective data.
- Update treatment plans as required.
- Maintain compliance with Indiana Medicaid Waiver documentation standards.
- Complete progress notes within required timelines.
- Maintain participant confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA.
- Report incidents, safety concerns, and changes in participant condition promptly.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Recreational Therapy or Therapeutic Recreation.
- Current CTRS credential, or eligibility to obtain certification.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to pass required background checks.
- Ability to obtain required Medicaid provider credentials.
- CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
- Knowledge of Indiana Medicaid Waiver services.
- Experience with behavior support strategies.
- Experience in community-based rehabilitation.
- Experience collaborating with interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
Physical requirements
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Lifting up to 40 pounds.
- Assisting participants during recreational activities.
- Frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, and lifting.
- Outdoor activities in varying weather conditions.
- Driving throughout assigned service areas.
