About the role

This is a paid internship running concurrently with the semester, with a flexible schedule based on the school schedule, including the possibility of working week day hours and some evenings and weekends. On-premise housing may be supplied.

Responsibilities

  • Aid/lead instruction of a group in accordance with YMCA curriculum guidelines, preparing lesson plans accordingly.
  • Plan, set up, and deliver a variety of activities within interest areas that are age-specific and engaging, including archery, boating, climbing wall, lead hikes, teambuilding, campfire programs, and seasonal activities.
  • Build effective, authentic relationships with students and parents, encouraging their involvement and identifying potential volunteers.
  • Provide clear instruction aligned with appropriate age groups, ensuring participant understanding.
  • Utilize teachable moments to discuss character development and provide constructive feedback using positive motivation techniques.
  • Maintain schedules, record attendance, progress, and other required data.
  • Follow YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety protocols, and report incidents and accidents promptly.
  • Use equipment correctly and organize/retrieve needed class supplies, cleaning up after each session and reporting damaged equipment.
  • Model and teach the YMCA's core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility in all activities.
  • Create a positive and nurturing learning environment to foster youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Intern candidate enrolled in a relevant undergraduate/graduate degree program or previous similar internship experience.
  • Previous experience working with children and adults in various sports, art, science, S.T.E.A.M., archery, boating, climbing wall, leading educational hikes, campfire programs, and seasonal activities.
  • Must demonstrate instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
  • Previous experience working with diverse populations preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite.

Qualifications

  • CPR, AED, Basic First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.

Pay

$16.01 per hour
