Overview

NeproPsychiatric Hospitals is seeking a Recreational Activity Associate at its Huber Heights location. As a national leader in behavioral healthcare, NPH provides specialized care to patients with acute psychiatric and complex medical needs. This role involves leading and assisting in recreational activities, fostering the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of patients.

Responsibilities

  • Leads and/or oversees individual and group activities on a daily basis, encouraging patient participation.
  • Affords assistance to the Director in implementing scheduled/suggested activities using various techniques such as games, arts, sports, crafts, music, dance, movement, and drama.
  • Maintains the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of participants by teaching relaxation techniques and stretching exercises to manage anxiety, and by employing techniques for introverted patients and those uncomfortable in social settings.
  • Teaches patients how to function with impaired mobility through physical activities.
  • Updates the Director on patient participation and reaction to activities and reports any unusual behaviors or symptoms to the clinical team.
  • Complies with required documentation according to hospital guidelines.
  • Unpacks and stores ordered supplies, maintains the activity storage area, picks up supplies after each activity, and returns furniture to its original position.
  • Performs cleaning tasks to ensure infection control.
  • Stays updated on current trends and developments in the field by reading relevant literature and attending seminars, conferences, etc.
  • Floats to other units and/or facilities as assigned.
  • Maintains a professional approach with confidentiality and ensures the protection and privacy of health information.
  • Adheres to NPH’s compliance standards as outlined in the Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct, and Conflict of Interest Policy.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Prior experience in a behavioral health setting preferred; at least 2 years of experience in a direct care role strongly preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Handle with Care (HWC) certifications required and obtained during orientation.
  • Works well with patients needing behavioral/recreational therapy.
  • Able to lead and motivate people.
  • Good planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and be creative and resourceful in therapy techniques.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.
