Recreational Activity Associate
Overview
NeproPsychiatric Hospitals is seeking a Recreational Activity Associate at its Houston, Texas location. The Recreational Activity Associate plays a crucial role in enhancing the well-being of patients through planned activities and support.
Responsibilities

Leads and/or oversees individual and group activities on a daily basis, encouraging patient participation.

Aids the Director in implementing scheduled/suggested activities using various techniques such as games, arts, sports, crafts, music, dance, movement, and drama.

Maintains the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of participants, teaching relaxation techniques and stretching exercises to manage anxiety.

Uses techniques and activities to engage introverted patients and those uncomfortable in social settings, fostering their participation in daily activities.

Teaches patients how to function with impaired mobility through physical activities, especially for those who have lost the use of one limb or are paralyzed.

Updates the Director on patient participation and reaction to activities, reporting any unusual behaviors or symptoms to the clinical team.

Complies with required documentation according to hospital guidelines.

Unpacks and stores ordered supplies, maintaining the activity storage area in a neat, clean condition.

Picks up and returns supplies after each activity and ensures furniture is returned to its original position.

Performs cleaning tasks to maintain infection control measures.

Stays updated on current trends and developments in the field by reading relevant literature and attending seminars.

Floats to other units and facilities as assigned.

Maintains a professional approach with confidentiality and ensures the protection and privacy of health information.

Adheres to NPH’s compliance standards as outlined in the Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct, and Conflict of Interest Policy.

Keeps informed about pertinent federal, state, and hospital regulations, laws, and policies.
Qualifications

A High School Diploma or GED is required.

Prior experience in a behavioral health setting is preferred; at least 2 years of experience in a direct care role is strongly preferred.

Basic Life Support (BLS) and Handle with Care (HWC) certifications are required and obtained during orientation.

Works effectively with patients needing behavioral/recreational therapy.

Has good planning and organizational skills.

Is creative and resourceful in therapy techniques.

Has excellent verbal and written communication skills.
