About the role

The Recreation Therapist, CF develops, implements, and evaluates therapeutic recreation programs for patients within California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation institutions. They instruct and motivate patients in individual and group recreation therapy, monitor and document treatment progress, and work with other health care providers.

Responsibilities

  • Develops therapeutic recreation programs for patients within California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation institutions.
  • Instructs and motivates patients in individual and group recreation therapy.
  • Maintains order and supervises the conduct of patients to protect and maintain the safety of persons and property.
  • Works with other health care providers to share recreational therapy assessment information and incorporate therapeutic recreational activities into treatment plans.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: Equivalent to graduation from a recognized college with major work in recreation or recreation therapy. The major must have included supervised field work.

This classification is subject to Section 5, Hiring-Above-Minimum (HAM) Authorization of the California State Civil Service Pay Scales. The authorized HAM rate for this classification is $9,159.

All applicants must meet the Minimum Qualifications (MQ's) of the classification, per SPB Rule 250, with the exception of Training & Development (T&D) Assignments.

Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment.

If using academic education above the twelfth grade to meet minimum qualifications, include a copy of your degree and/or Informal (Unofficial) School Transcripts.

Candidates new to CDCR/CCHCS are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, as well as a Tuberculosis test/evaluation prior to appointment, followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.
