The Alaska Psychiatric Institute (API) is recruiting for a Recreation Therapist 1.
What You Will Be Doing:
- Plan and implement individual and group therapeutic activities including but not limited to: sports, physical exercise, creative arts, cultural events, and special interest groups for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients with physical and/or mental disorders at the state psychiatric facility.
- Assess patient's leisure needs and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, in an effort to promote, maintain or restore patient’s physical and mental health.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college with a major in recreation therapy, recreation, occupational therapy, activity therapy, behavioral science or a closely related field.
- Certification as an Activity Director from the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals may be substituted for the required education. A copy of the certification must be submitted with your application.
Special Note
- Positions in this series work with physically and/or mentally impaired or debilitated individuals. Most positions require the physical ability to assist clients in gross motor skill activities such as sports, exercise activities or outings and/or with fine motor skill activities such as hobbies, crafts and art activities.
- For some positions in these job classes a background investigation including fingerprinting is required.
Additional Required Information
- List of three (3) professional references, including daytime phone numbers.
- Copies of all performance evaluations that have been received for the last years if available.
- Copies of college transcripts required.
Background Check
- The successful candidate must pass a comprehensive background investigation, which includes a state and FBI fingerprint-based background check.
Education
- To verify education is being used to meet the required minimum qualifications, you must fill in the Education section of the application. Special Instructions for Foreign Education

It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
