About the Role
Under the direction of the Tennis & Pickleball Head Pro and Recreation Manager, this position teaches tennis and pickleball to beginner, intermediate, and advanced players of all ages through clinics, camps, and special events. The role also involves monitoring facilities, performing minor maintenance, managing concessions, registering players, handling cash transactions, and assisting with tournaments and leagues.
Responsibilities
- Teaches tennis and pickleball to players of all ages and skill levels through clinics, camps, classes, and special events.
- Promotes and markets the City of St. George tennis and pickleball programs.
- Communicates concerns related to staff, programs, drop-in play, equipment, and facilities to the Head Pro.
- Assists with camps, tournaments, leagues, clinics, special events, and errands.
- Performs general office and clerical duties at both tennis and pickleball facilities.
- Organizes, cleans, prepares, and maintains facilities and work areas.
- Provides customer service in person, over the phone, or by email; answers questions or refers customers to appropriate staff.
- Works at multiple tennis and pickleball facilities within the City of St. George.
- Registers players for tournaments, clinics, lessons, and other events.
- Follows money-handling policies and resolves conflicts with the public professionally.
- Officiates tennis or pickleball matches during leagues or tournaments.
- Studies, understands, and enforces proper tennis and pickleball rules.
- Sets up and takes down equipment during shifts.
- Writes injury reports for players injured during games.
- Writes ejection or sportsmanship reports for players or spectators violating policies.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Working Conditions
- Conditions and temperatures may vary depending on the assignment.
- Requires vision and/or hearing to identify and evaluate emergencies.
- Must respond quickly and appropriately to emergencies.
- Involves moderately heavy physical activity, exerting 25-50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10-25 pounds frequently.
- Mental demands include intermittent exposure to stress due to human behavior.
- Must be available to work weekends, evenings, holidays, and other schedules to prepare for recreation offerings.
Requirements
- Minimum of 6 months of tennis or pickleball playing experience.
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required (must be obtained within 60 days of hire and maintained throughout employment).
Skills
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Clear and concise communication, both orally and in writing.
- Self-starter with the ability to instruct clinics at multiple facilities.
- Experience instructing juniors and adults at beginner levels.
- Ability to work the schedule provided by the Head Tennis and Pickleball Pro.
- Team player who communicates effectively with players, parents, and spectators.
- Handles tense situations professionally.
- Highly motivated, dependable, and customer service-oriented.
- Computer literate.

- Golf course privileges are based on availability. Employees can book tee-times within 24 hours or the same day but may be turned away if no tee-times are available. If golfing with at least 2 paying customers, tee times can be set with more advance notice but are still based on availability. Red Hills Golf Course is walk-on play only.
Schedule
This is a part-time position with variable hours averaging less than 28 hours per week over a period of twelve months.
