Recreation/Park Facility Manager II (13560, Grade 24)
About the role
The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented professional Ice Rink Assistant Manager to join the Enterprise Team at Montgomery County Parks in Rockville, MD. The role involves managing the daily operations of the Cabin John Ice Rink facility, including overseeing the Olympic, NHL, and studio rink, building maintenance, program administration, and staff supervision.
Responsibilities
- Assists in the management of the Cabin John Ice Rink
- Manages day-to-day facility operations and establish operating procedures
- Assists Ice Rink Manager with scheduling leased ice contracts and ensuring that all scheduled facility programming is run on time and without interruption
- Serves as manager on duty for selected shifts
- Ensures safety and security of buildings and patrons
- Assembles information and prepares selected reports as directed by supervisor(s)
- Coordinates with staff the maintenance and repairs of the facilities and grounds and ensures they are promptly addressed with minimal disruption to facility programs and schedules
- Oversee and manage special events
- Manage customer service activities of the facility
- Set a positive example for employees ensuring customers are treated in a prompt, professional, respectful manner
- Assists with Budget preparation
- Assists with recruiting, hiring, training, and scheduling staff
- Manage Snack Bar, Pro Shop, and Vending Operations
- Recruits, hires, trains, schedules, and supervise staff
- Select and order merchandise and supplies
- Oversee snack bar equipment (ensures proper operation, purchases equipment, and oversees necessary repairs)
- Oversee pro shop equipment (ensures proper operation, purchases equipment, and oversees necessary repairs)
- Receive and maintain all necessary certifications (ServSafe Food Manager and ServSafe Allergens) to oversee operations
- Control inventory and ensure accuracy of sales and inventory records
- Oversee daily operations
- Maintain revenue and expenditure and prepare required reports
- Prepare budget recommendations for supervisor to review and approve
- Programs-Schedules Facilities
- Aids in the scheduling of sessions and ongoing programs for the rink
- Ensure that all scheduled facility programming is run on time, as scheduled daily without interruption
- Supervision of Staff
- Provide oversight and support of two full-time career employees (Front-End Operations Manager, Snack Bar, and Miniature Train Manager)
- Responsible, with assistance of the career managers, for supervision and oversight of all seasonal staff to include the snack bar, miniature train, pro shop, manager aides, skate guards, and custodial/maintenance staff
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation, Facility Management, Recreation Management, Education, Business Administration, Physical Education, Communication, Leisure Services, or any related field
- Two (2) years of responsible professional experience working in a facility related to parks, recreation, leisure services, or area of required specialty (e.g., arts, performing arts, equestrian, tennis, aquatics, gymnastics, ice rinks); including one (1) year as a facility manager, program coordinator or supervisor
- Valid driver’s license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations
- Comprehensive knowledge of recreational facility management, safety and health regulations, budgeting principles, special event planning, procurement practices, cash handling, etc.
