Recreation Officer I - FRDC

About the role

The Missouri Department of Corrections seeks individuals to assist in conducting and overseeing a variety of indoor and outdoor activities/games/sports, prepare for movies, group activities, special seasonal programs, competitive events, organize athletic events/shows/other outside recreation activities, provide individual/group instruction in the fundamentals and rules of various activities, issue recreation equipment, maintain records of issuance and inspect the condition of equipment when returned, participate in the selection and requisition of recreation equipment, assist in the care/maintenance of indoor and outdoor recreation facilities, observe behavior/reaction of participants in activities, provide reports to a higher-level Recreation Officer, receive general administrative direction, perform work reviewed through observations, and perform other related work as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Assists in conducting and overseeing a variety of indoor and outdoor activities/games/sports such as baseball/basketball/gymnastics/calisthenics/chess/ping-pong;
• Affords assistance in making arrangements/ preparing for movies, group activities, special seasonal programs, competitive events;
• Participates in organizing athletic events/shows/other outside recreation activities;
• Provides individual/group instruction in the fundamentals and rules of various activities;
• Issues recreation equipment;
• Maintains records of issuance and inspects the condition of equipment when returned;
• Participates in the selection and requisition of recreation equipment;
• Affords assistance in the care/maintenance of indoor and outdoor recreation facilities;
• Observes behavior/reaction of participants in activities;
• Provides reports to a higher-level Recreation Officer;
• Receives general administrative direction;
• Performs work reviewed through observations;
• Performs other related work as assigned.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age or older. Contingent upon your position, you may also be eligible to receive:

• A $2.00 per hour shift differential if you are assigned to a shift that begins on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am and are employed at a 24/7 congregate care facility (i.e. institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center).
• A $1.00 per hour restrictive housing differential if you are assigned a regular post within a restrict housing/segregation unit at any facility.

Qualifications

Th Department of corrections currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years!

Pay

The annual salary listed for this position includes the additional $1.50 per hour maximum security differential ($3,120 annually) for all full-time positions domiciled in a maximum-security institution.
