About the Role
The primary function of the position is to ensure proper usage of the facility, assist in the operation of recreation activities, and provide proper collection and disposition of revenues generated at the assigned facility.
Responsibilities
- Administrative Support:
- Provides customer service to patrons, including greeting customers, checking identification, issuing and receiving gear/equipment, and registering patrons for facility use, events, and/or classes.
- Answers telephone inquiries regarding facility hours, upcoming events, and programs.
- Completes Daily Activity Reports.
- Assists in planning, scheduling, and publicizing activities while maintaining related supplies.
- Oversees the sale of retail items associated with activities.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of ongoing Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) fitness activities based on participant feedback, resources, and program objectives.
- Monitors patrons, volunteers, and contractors during programs/events and reports issues to management.
- Assists in selecting fitness, sports, and aquatics activities based on participant interests and available resources.
- Instructional Support:
- Monitors participants in indoor and outdoor activities, including intramural sporting events.
- Conducts instructional classes in assigned recreational areas.
- Performs basic fitness orientations, identifies and corrects unsafe techniques, and demonstrates proper use of equipment.
- Establishes/reviews event schedules, conducts tours, and prepares facilities prior to scheduled events.
- Ensures adherence to regulations and safety procedures.
- Facility/Equipment Maintenance:
- Ensures facilities and sporting fields are opened/closed at posted times.
- Monitors facility security and patron activity to maintain order and assist with equipment use.
- Ensures athletic playing surfaces are safe and properly maintained.
- Assists in cleaning and maintaining equipment/facilities, including janitorial duties (e.g., sweeping, mopping, cleaning bathrooms, and locker areas).
- Performs minor repairs and outdoor maintenance; reports unresolved maintenance issues to supervisors.
Requirements
- Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
- Must have salary deposited via Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
- Must obtain and maintain the following certifications:
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid within 30 days of hire.
- Automated External Defibrillator (AED), Blood-borne Pathogen, and Navy Basic Fitness Certification within 90 days of hire.
- May be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
- Selective Service Requirement: Male candidates born after December 31, 1959, must register with the Selective Service System unless exempt.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of MWR policies, rules, and regulations.
- Basic arithmetic skills for computing charges, dispersing change, and preparing reports.
- Knowledge of cash handling procedures.
- Understanding of basic fitness, aquatics, and sports principles.
- Knowledge of safe use and operation of fitness equipment, facility operations, and basic maintenance/repair.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and related software for fitness, sports, and aquatics programming.
- Ability to provide fitness, aquatics, and sports training or orientation.
- Ability to independently carry out day-to-day recreation operations.
- Ability to develop and deliver presentations and/or training.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
Additional Information
- Spouses of active-duty military members may receive hiring preference if among the best-qualified candidates. Preference does not apply to NF 04 and NF 05 positions. Applicants must submit a Request for Military Spouse Preference form and current PCS orders.
- For positions requiring travel more than twice per year, a Government-issued Travel Card may be required.
