Recreation Assistant

About the role

Together with the Therapeutic Recreation Director, the Recreation Assistant assists in the development and execution of therapeutic recreational services for all residents with supervision, in accordance with federal, state, and local standards. Helps ensure the highest quality recreation program is provided.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing a full range of therapeutic recreational programs and activities for all residents, considering physical and emotional limitations and individual interests.
• Ensure observance of religious days, social events, national holidays, and traditional celebrations when planning residents’ calendar of events.
• Utilize community support in establishing volunteer programs and intergenerational events.
• Encourage resident participation in therapeutic recreational activities.
• Carry out activities appropriate to residents’ level of functioning.
• Know and comply with the Residents’ Bill of Rights.
• Advise and instruct residents on issues and changes pertaining to the Residents’ Bill of Rights and their responsibilities through Resident Council.
• Maintain confidentiality and privacy in reporting Resident Council minutes and care plan issues.
• Report immediately to supervisor all resident grievances and complaints.
• Foster feelings of self-worth and respect by treating residents with kindness and understanding.
• Provide rotating weekend coverage of recreation activities.

Requirements

• Must have a vehicle and a valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.

Qualifications

Preferred: At least one year of experience in a rehabilitative or geriatric setting.
