Responsibilities

• Assist the Director of Therapeutic Recreations in developing and executing therapeutic recreational services for all residents, adhering to federal, state, and local standards.
• Help ensure the highest quality recreation program is provided.
• Develop a full range of therapeutic recreational programs and activities for all residents, considering physical and emotional limitations and individual interests.
• Plan residents’ calendar of events, observing religious days, social events, national holidays, and traditional celebrations.
• Utilize community support to establish volunteer programs and intergenerational events.
• Encourage resident participation in therapeutic recreational activities.
• Carry out activities appropriate to residents’ level of functioning.
• Know and comply with the Residents’ Bill of Rights.
• Advise and instruct residents on issues and changes pertaining to the Residents’ Bill of Rights and their responsibilities through Resident Council.
• Maintain confidentiality and privacy in reporting Resident Council minutes and care plan issues.
• Report all resident grievances and complaints to the supervisor immediately.
• Foster feelings of self-worth and respect by treating residents with kindness and understanding.

Requirements

• Must have a vehicle, a valid driver’s license, and a safe driving record.
• Ability to provide rotating weekend coverage of recreation activities.

Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include:

• At least one year of experience in a rehabilitative or geriatric setting.
• Meet requirements of Therapeutic Recreation Assistant as stated in the Public Health Code.
