Recreation Assistant
About the role
Together with the Therapeutic Recreation Director, the Recreation Assistant assists in the development and execution of therapeutic recreational services to all residents with supervision in accordance with federal, state and local standards. Helps ensure the highest quality recreation program is provided.
The Recreation Assistant assists in the development of a full range of therapeutic recreational programs and activities for all residents with appropriate concern for residents’ physical and emotional limitations, and individual interests. Ensures observance of religious days, social events, national holidays and traditional celebrations when planning residents’ calendar of events. Utilizes community support in establishing volunteer programs and intergenerational events. Encourages resident participation in therapeutic recreational activities. Carries out activities appropriate to resident’s level of functioning.
Responsibilities
- Know and comply with the Residents’ Bill of Rights.
- Through Resident Council, advise and instruct the residents on issues and changes pertaining to Residents Bill of Rights and their responsibilities.
- Maintain confidentiality and privacy in reporting of Resident Council minutes and care plan issues.
- Report immediately to supervisor all resident grievances and complaints.
- Foster feeling of self-worth and respect by treating residents with kindness and understanding.
- Provide rotating weekend coverage of recreation activities.
Requirements
- Must have a vehicle and a valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
Qualifications
Preferred:
- At least one year of experience in a rehabilitative or geriatric setting.
