About the Role

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department (MCPRD) strives to enrich the lives of residents by providing exciting and safe recreational amenities and programs, improving fitness levels, fostering community through events and social spaces, protecting open space and natural areas, and ensuring the county achieves its vision as a community of pride and choice. This position is based at Naomi Drenan Recreation Center and will work up to 19 hours per week, primarily supporting afterschool programs beginning at 3:00pm. The schedule may include evenings and weekends depending on facility needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide customer service and handle funds in a recreation center or park facility through telephone, email, website, social media, and in-person interactions for information, program registration, daily center use, and rentals.
  • Ensure safety of participants and spectators; administer first aid when necessary.
  • Enforce rules and regulations at facilities and recreational areas.
  • Collect fees and process registrations for recreational programs and facility rentals.
  • Assist in light maintenance of facilities and recreational areas, including cleaning and trash pick-up.
  • Serve as referee, timekeeper, scorekeeper, or lineperson at various sports activities.
  • Assist with recreational programs for all ages, including hands-on activities and demonstrations.
  • Handle inquiries and complaints from the public.
  • Assist with special events, field trips, and setup/breakdown of events.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License with County Driving Privileges.
  • CPR/First Aid certification.
  • General knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite.
