About the role
The City of Sunnyvale is seeking self-motivated, energetic, and responsible individuals interested in employment as an Assistant Pool Manager to assist with aquatic programs for youth, teens, families, and adults.
Responsibilities
- Interacts and communicates effectively with children, parents, caregivers, volunteers, and City staff
- Maintains constant surveillance over pool users and staff
- Aid with the supervision and scheduling of aquatics staff
- Supervise or support staff/volunteers independently in the absence of the Pool Manager, Assistant Recreation Coordinator, or Recreation Coordinator
- Enforce pool rules and regulations as they pertain to pool users and staff
- Open and close the facility in a safe and orderly manner
- Aid the Pool Manager in ensuring staff plan and implement swim lesson curriculum
- Aid the Pool Manager in keeping daily logs of rescues and other incidents for all aquatic facilities
- Aid in setting up and cleaning aquatic facilities for programs
- Issue, maintain, and store equipment and supplies
- Attend, participate, and assist with in-service trainings and meetings
- Perform the duties of a Lifeguard/Swim Instructor, and other related work as required
Requirements
- Minimum age is 17 years old
- A valid American Red Cross Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED certificate (course may be taken after hire)
- One (1) year or one (1) summer season of aquatic experience as a Lifeguard or Swim Instructor
Qualifications
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
- Bilingual in Spanish, Mandarin, or Farsi
- Leadership experience from being a team captain, student council representative, or serving in a leadership role in a club, sorority, or fraternity
- Ability to interact with the public
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Skills
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to enforce rules and regulations
- Manual dexterity for manipulating pool equipment and tools
- Eye-hand coordination for monitoring and communicating appropriate pool activity
- Ability to lift, drag, and push/pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds
