Recreation Aide (Golf)

This position is located at the Gulf Winds Golf Course, part of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department aboard Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, TX. The incumbent is under the direct supervision of the Golf Course Manager.

About the role

The purpose of this position is to provide and maintain an adequate supply of riding carts and range balls during normal operating hours, clean and return golf carts to the storage area, and restock range balls for the next day's use.

Responsibilities

  • Use a gas-powered mechanical golf ball retriever to pick up golf balls and place them in the range ball dispenser.
  • Retrieve range ball baskets and pick up range balls by hand that cannot be retrieved by the mechanical golf ball retriever.
  • Clean, store, and secure golf carts; attach or remove battery charger hook-ups as appropriate.
  • Change the practice hitting area to a new location daily.
  • Clean the golf ball dispenser and perform preventive maintenance functions such as cleaning gears, removing debris from inside the dispenser, and oiling moving parts.
  • Check patrons to ensure they have paid daily green fees.
  • Clean and stock restrooms, and check sanitation during the shift.
  • Empty trash receptacles and pick up papers, trash, and debris around buildings and facilities to maintain a neat and presentable outside area.
  • Clean and maintain shelters and drinking fountains on the golf course.
  • Replace broken lights, paper products, and empty trash cans.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successfully complete a background investigation using fingerprint identification and background inquiry forms.
  • Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check; any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
  • Must complete Personal Identity Verification (PIV) using two forms of identification from the Form I-9.
  • A valid State driver’s license is required to operate motor vehicles.
  • Must have salary sent to a financial institution of choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must be C.A.R.E (Controlling Alcohol Risks Effectively) trained, hold an Emergency First Responder (EFR) or CPR First Aid certification, and hold a current Food Handler certification OR obtain these within 90 days of employment.
  • Work may be performed outside and may involve exposure to extreme heat.
  • Applicant must reside within the local commuting area (50-mile radius of the installation) at the time of applying.
  • Must have current CPR/First Aid certification or be willing to obtain it within 90 days of employment.

Qualifications

  • Resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position.
  • Specialized experience directly related to the duties described above is required; qualifying experience must be equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression.
  • General experience of 0-3 months and/or a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of the MWR department to answer customer questions or refer customers to the appropriate activity.
  • Skilled in keyboarding, including operation of point-of-sale systems and desktop computers.
  • Ability to perform basic computer operations, read and comprehend rules, regulations, and procedures, and perform basic custodial tasks (e.g., sweeping, mopping, vacuuming).
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Ability to identify customer needs, deliver expected service, and resolve routine customer issues.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Credit is given for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part-time experience; duties and responsibilities in each position held must be clearly identified.
