This position is located at Aquatics Center, White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico.
United States (U.S.) Citizens and Non-U.S. Nationals who have resided in the U.S. or U.S. territory for three (3) or more continuous years immediately preceding the start of Federal affiliation.
Duties
- Serves as a lifeguard for indoor and outdoor pools under the direction of the Installation Aquatics Program Manager.
- Employs safety rules for the protection of pool guests and provides maximum pool area surveillance.
- Responds to emergencies; rescues pool patrons and administers first aid as required.
- Assists in the conduct of aquatic swimming and water survival training according to ATP 7-22.01 (October 2020) and American Red Cross swim lessons as an Aide.
- Attends aquatics and/or safety training as directed.
- Assists in maintaining pool and surrounding area clean and free from hazards.
- Performs periodic water tests and reports results to the pool leader on duty.
- Provides information to swimmers regarding safety, health, admission rules, and procedures.
- Tactfully warns patrons who disregard safety rules and follows facility Standard Operating Procedures for disciplinary actions.
- Assists in coaching or preparing competitive and non-competitive swimming programs as required.
- Maintains daily logs, reports, and records as required.
- Participates in required training, including on-the-job training, emergency rescue drills, and emergency action plan simulations.
Requirements
- Direct Deposit and Social Security Card are required.
- Must meet qualification, eligibility, and background requirements for this position.
- A one-year probationary period may be required.
- Must satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
- Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks, including a Tier 1 background investigation.
- Must have a current health assessment documenting good physical health and freedom from communicable disease per current Army Policy.
- Continuous exposure to sun and prolonged periods of high temperature and humidity.
- In case of exposure to infectious disease, must obtain the Hepatitis B vaccination series within a 24-hour period.
- Must have good vision (20/40 or better, corrected or uncorrected) to effectively recognize emergencies and rule-breaking.
- Must follow environmental safeguards and wear personal protective equipment.
- May be assigned irregular duties or special recreational events, including weekends, weekdays, holidays, and night duty.
- Fifteen (15) year old lifeguards must comply with DOL Child Labor Laws (Jan 17, 2006).
- All required certifications must be kept current.
- May be subject to additional background checks if required to have regular and recurring contact with children.
Qualifications
- Resumes must be two pages or less and clearly demonstrate relevant experience, skills, knowledge, and abilities.
- Must possess and maintain the following certifications:
- Lifeguarding and First Aid (American Red Cross or nationally recognized equivalent such as Star Guard, YMCA, or ELLIS).
- American Red Cross "Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation for the Professional" or equivalent (American Heart Association CPR/AED).
- First Aid.
- Oxygen Administration certification (if applicable) within two weeks of reporting for duty.
- Must be currently certified as a lifeguard that includes "Deep Water."
- Certifications must be described within the duties of previous work experience on the resume and/or supporting documents.
