About the role
The Collections Department is expanding and seeks a Recovery/Disposition Specialist to assist in achieving the credit union's mission to serve as members' trusted financial partners.
Responsibilities
- Handle repossession, recovery, and remarketing processes
- Assign vehicles for repossession and follow up weekly
- Perform skip-tracing with internal and external resources
- Maintain and mail notices to borrowers according to laws
- Order titles, cancel/add-on products, verify invoices, and cut checks
- Set floor prices based on condition reports and auction prices
- Verify and approve/deny inspections and repairs
- Review and accept/deny bids, adjust floor prices as needed
- Receive and contact members regarding impounded collateral
- Manage repair invoices and negotiate sale or abandonment
- Submit recommendations for third-party collection agencies or attorneys
- Work with legal counsel and law enforcement
- Handle inbound calls and correspondence
- Assist with call queues and alert management of risks
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Two years of college preferred
- Two years of experience in consumer lending collections
- One to two years of experience in collateral recovery
Qualifications
- Thorough understanding of recovery/charge-off processes
- Strong skip-tracing background
- Knowledge of debt collection procedures, bankruptcy laws, and lending laws
- Understanding of federal, state, and local laws regulating collection and repossession
- Research and problem-solving skills
- Excellent negotiation and organizational skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Basic math and accounting skills
- Knowledge of loan contracts and financial analysis
- Understanding of Credit Union products and services
- Ability to work in a paperless environment

- Use MS Outlook, Excel, and Word
- Communicate effectively via phone, email, and in-person
