Brief Description
The Recovery Delivery Driver supports flexible delivery operations by handling last-minute customer orders, recovering delayed or missed deliveries, and assisting drivers in the field. This role ensures service levels, customer satisfaction, and operational continuity.
Responsibilities
- Complete emergency deliveries and assist overloaded routes.
- Recover and complete missed, delayed, or undelivered customer orders.
- Assist drivers with route delays, vehicle issues, staffing shortages, or other operational challenges.
- Transfer product between routes to ensure timely customer delivery.
- Maintain communication with Delivery Experience Team, Transportation Leadership, and Customer Support regarding delivery status and recovery efforts.
- Load, unload, transport, and transfer products safely while maintaining product integrity and delivery accuracy.
- Verify customer orders, quantities, and delivery documentation.
- Handle products in accordance with food safety, quality, sanitation, and Company operational standards.
- Safely operate hand trucks, pallet jacks, liftgates, and other delivery equipment as required.
- Resolve delivery issues in the field while maintaining customer service and professionalism.
- Communicate delivery delays, product issues, customer concerns, and service interruptions promptly to relevant teams.
- Operate Company vehicles safely, conduct pre-trip, post-trip, and safety inspections, and immediately report vehicle defects.
- Provide basic roadside assistance and minor vehicle support to drivers when safe and authorized.
- Coordinate with Fleet Maintenance and Transportation Leadership to resolve vehicle-related issues and minimize delivery disruptions.
- Escalate mechanical failures, safety concerns, or repairs beyond authorized minor support activities to appropriate parties.
- Maintain and safely utilize Company-issued recovery equipment, tools, and supplies.
- Remain available to respond to changing operational priorities throughout the shift.
- Support transportation operations during route disruptions, vehicle breakdowns, severe weather events, staffing shortages, or other service-impacting situations.
- Assist with trailer transfers, equipment movement, and other transportation support activities as assigned.
- Partner with Drivers, Delivery Experience Team, Transportation Supervisors, Fleet Maintenance, and Operations teams to ensure service continuity.
Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License with a minimum of one year driving experience.
- Experience operating FMCSA-regulated vehicles (preferred).
- Valid DOT Medical Card.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English language sufficiently to comply with FMCSA/DOT regulations.
- Valid driving record with minimal infractions, in accordance to Company policy.
- Knowledge of products to ensure proper handling and quality control.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to follow safety procedures, routes, and delivery instructions accurately.
- Ability to perform minor roadside support activities and safely handle basic recovery tools and equipment.
Schedule
Ability to work up to 6-day work schedule including weekends and holidays. Early start time as early as 4am, based on route and operational needs.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 8 pounds on a frequent basis.
- Ability to repeatedly enter and exit delivery vehicles throughout the workday.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, climb, and navigate stairs during deliveries.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions and temperature environments.
- Ability to safely operate pallet jacks, hand trucks, liftgates, and other delivery equipment.
- Ability to perform minor roadside support activities and safely handle basic recovery tools and equipment.
