Recommending Toxicity: the role of algorithmic recommender functions on YouTube Shorts and TikTok in promoting male supremacist influencers

About the role

The Institute for Future Media, Democracy and Society (FuJo) at Dublin City University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position. The successful candidate will contribute to research activities within the Institute's broad remit, working on projects related to media, democracy, and the digital society.

Responsibilities

• Conduct independent and collaborative research under the direction of the Principal Investigators.
• Contribute to the design, implementation, and dissemination of research projects.
• Prepare research outputs for publication in high-quality peer-reviewed journals and other formats.
• Present findings at academic conferences and other relevant events.
• Assist in the supervision of postgraduate students and contribute to the Institute's research culture.
• Engage with relevant stakeholders, including policymakers, civil society, and media organisations, as appropriate to the research.

Requirements

• A PhD in a relevant discipline such as Political Science, Communication Studies, Media Studies, Sociology, or a related field.
• A strong track record of research publications commensurate with career stage.
• Demonstrable expertise in quantitative and/or qualitative research methods.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• PhD completed or near completion.
• Experience with research project management and delivery.
• Evidence of ability to produce high-quality research outputs.

• Proficiency in relevant research software and tools.

Pay

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and in line with DCU Postdoctoral Researcher salary scales.

Schedule

This is a full-time, fixed-term position.
