About the role
The Recess Aide at St. Catherine Labouré Catholic School is responsible for providing supervision and ensuring the safety, well-being, and positive social interaction of students during recess periods. The Recess Aide supports the school's Catholic mission by fostering a respectful, inclusive, and faith-filled environment while encouraging appropriate student behavior and active play.
Responsibilities
- Supervise students during indoor and outdoor recess activities to ensure a safe and orderly environment.
- Monitor playground areas, equipment, and student interactions to prevent accidents and address concerns promptly.
- Encourage positive behavior, good sportsmanship, and respectful interactions among students.
- Enforce school rules and playground expectations consistently and fairly.
- Assist students in resolving minor conflicts using positive guidance and conflict-resolution strategies.
- Communicate student behavioral, safety, or health concerns to teachers and administrators as necessary.
- Respond appropriately to minor injuries and seek additional assistance when needed.
- Ensure students remain within designated supervision areas during recess.
- Help organize games and activities that encourage participation and inclusion.
- Assist with transitions between classrooms, lunch, and recess periods as assigned.
- Support the mission and values of Catholic education through positive interactions and role modeling.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience working with children in a school, childcare, camp, or recreational setting preferred.
- Ability to supervise groups of children effectively and maintain a safe environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain alert, attentive, and active throughout the recess period.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
- Completion of required background screening and Safe Environment training.
