About the Role

Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, this position provides excellent patient care by performing or assisting in a variety of medical procedures and tests to support patient examination and treatment. Responsibilities span multiple physician practices and include patient registration, appointment scheduling, insurance verification, and financial transaction management.

Responsibilities

  • Perform or assist with medical procedures and tests, including vital signs, treatments, administering injections, and venipuncture.
  • Provide excellent customer service by greeting patients, answering phones, and directing callers appropriately.
  • Handle patient registration, appointment scheduling, and collection of insurance co-pays and deductibles.
  • Verify insurance information and maintain accurate records of financial activity for each shift.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Six months of experience as a medical assistant or patient care technician, OR completion of one of the following programs: medical assistant, emergency medical technician, nurse assistant, licensed practical nurse, armed services medic, or patient care technician.
  • For clinics with Rural Health Designation, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or Canadian equivalents is required within 6 months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through the American Medical Technologists (AMT).
  • American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Certification (may be required at management discretion).
  • Electronic medical record (EMR) experience.
  • One year of experience working in a medical office with multiple providers.
  • Previous experience in a medical office of the same specialty.
